Establishment of NIC District Centre
     
      
In the Vidisha district of the Madhya Pradesh State , District Computer Centre of the NIC was established in the year 1989. To establish this computer centrre an appropriate site ( one already existing room of the size 400 Sq. Ft. ) in the Collectorate building was selected and the civil work and the necessary electrical work was completed with the Public Works Department Vidisha. The necessary expenditure towards the establishment of this centre was received from the Government of Madhya Pradesh , whereas , the necessary Hardware was received from National Informatics Centre Headquarters New - Delhi. The Hardware consisted indoor equipments as well as outdoor equipments. The indoor system constituted Super PC - AT 386 with eight terminals to facilitate working in an multi-user and multi-tasking environment. Zenix Operating system and foxbase were loaded in the computer at that time . The outdoor unit constituted the Micro Earth Station equipments with C-200 controller and an antenna on the terrace so as to facilitate " NICNET " the satellite based communication system of the National Informatics Centre .However, In the year 2005, the super PC-AT systems which turned obsolete were replaced with powerful Xeon processor based server and Laser printer. Windows operating system and MS-office tools are now being used in the centre. NIC has installed a video conferencing studio in a separate building close to the Collector Office and looking to the need, the existing NIC centre was shifted adjacent to VC studio. The MES c-200 controller was also replaced with the modern VSAT equipments and in addition to the existing infrastructure communication a 2 mbps line has also been commenced.
  
Activities of NIC District Centre :
  
Training :- Many departments of the Government have been equipped with computer and related peripherals . Training programs are conducted in the centre for the users , i. e. staff of various Government departments.
  
Implimentation of Softwares :- To monitor the progress of departments located at District headquarter by their higher officials , suitable softwares for these departments have been developed at National Informatics Centre headquarters New-Delhi and Madhya Pradesh State Centre Bhopal . The softwares are installed in the respective offices . The staff of respective department enters the data and transmit the report at the desired location through E-mail.

However , The main activity of the centre is to spread and promote an appropriate informatics culture in various departments . In addition to it technical support regarding installation of computer system and site preparation related guidance is given to the Government departments.
